Appreciating Friends

Friends come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they stay forever sometimes they are gone quickly, but it is better to have had them in your lives even for a short time.

I love that quote from Eleanor Roosevelt
“many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart”

I am reminded of this today as I learned that an old school friend had died. I haven’t seen her for 100 years. We didn’t fall out just time and doing different stuff, but that does not diminish the sadness I feel about her today, for her friends, for her family. Better to have known her and honoured that time I knew her.

So today I see her as she was then a 17/18-year-old girl who was so full of life, great fun, very kind, a lovely girl who definitely left a foot print on me.  Out of this sadness has come some joy as I have been in contact with some other friends from that time, and I have organised to see them, long overdue but today’s news has been a catalyst and underlined the value of the footprints that they and others have made in my life.
